The Dodgers made another trade today, this time with the Padres, sending Matt Kemp and Tim Federowicz (fehd-er-oh-vich) for Yasmani Grandal (yaz-MAH-nee gran-DAHL), and Joe Wieland. There have been rumors around a Kemp deal for a while now, and this one seemed the most likely. The Dodgers like Kemp but simply could not afford to keep him in their packed outfield to earn $107 million over the next five years. They get Yasmani Grandal to fill the Dodgers ever changing backup catcher spot that has changed this offseason from Drew Butera to Ryan Lavarnway to Tim Federowicz (fehd-er-oh-vich) to Yasmani Grandal. For a backup catcher Grandal's 2.2 oWAR and 6.2 NP/O (3rd among catchers) in 2014 are very impressive. We will see what the Dodger do to get him the playing time he deserves. |
