The newest GM in baseball, Farhan Zaidi and his LA Dodgers made a pair of big deals today.
Dee Gordon and Haren for Heaney and other prospects.
Dee Gordon and Dan Haren for Andrew Heaney, Austin Barnes, Enrique Hernandez, and Chris Hatcher. From Dodgers: Dee Gordon, the speedy 26 year old second baseman is the main piece going to the Marlins. Gordon earned a 3.6 oWAR while stealing an MLB leading 64 bases, his future is looking very bright in a Marlins uniform. The other piece is veteran righty Dan Haren who has gotten a negative WAR while earning $10 million plus each of the past three seasons, however the Dodgers are still going to be paying Haren's $10 million for '15 as part of the deal. From Marlins: The big player from the Marlins is Andrew Heaney a top lefty prospect ranked 18th on MLB pipelines top 100 prospects list. With this move the Dodgers improve a farm system that already has Corey Seager, Julio Urias, and Joc Pederson, and will allow them to maintain an incredible rotation into the future. They also are receiving Austin Barnes who's top defensive action at Catcher and infield positions is his main selling point. Pitcher Chris Hatcher can help the Dodgers bullpen and will also be going to LA in the deal. The Marlins are also sending bit player Enrique Hernandez. |
Jimmy Rollins to Dodgers for Prospects
The Dodgers have also reportedly made a deal with the Phillies for Jimmy Rollins. The details of the deal are still being worked out but, the Phillies are sending Rollins and at least $1 million to the Dodger (that will help pay for Rollins' $11 million dollars owed for 2015). In return the Dodgers will send prospects. No names have been announced yet, but there are rumors that one of the prospects from the Gordon trade may be involved (It is safe to assume it is not Heaney). |
