The Indians have reportedly finished a trade for Brandon Moss a power left handed bat who played the last three seasons for the A's. In return the Athletics will receive 24 year old infield prospect Joe Wendle. Putting my bias towards all of Billy Beane's decisions aside I do not understand this trade. Joe Wendle's 2014 stats at AA were mediocre, with a slash line of .253/.311/.414, and Brandon Moss has been amazing since coming to the A's. With three years left on his contract in which he will likely continue producing giving away Moss's powerful bat for so little doesn't make sense (for full projection and a look at Moss' future go here). Billy Beane's new plan is risky for sure, having already traded Donaldson and Moss for prospects and rumors brewing for Samardzija, Jed Lowrie, and more. We will see in a few years if Beane's plan works out. |
