The Tigers have reached two deals reported Thursday, day four of the Winter meetings. One of them was with the Red Sox, who are sending Yoenis Cespedes for Rick Porcello, and the other with the Re
ds for Alfredo Simon in return for Eugenio Suarez and Jonathon Crawford.Cespedes to the Tigers
This move has been expected for some time now, and it makes perfect sense with the Sox packed outfield as well as their desperate need for rotation help. Cespedes is 29 years old and posted a 4.1 WAR in 2014. He is an all-star quality He was already dealt for a top quality earlier this year at the trade deadline, when the A's traded him for Jon Lester. This time he was traded for 25 year old Rick Porcello. |
Alfredo Simon Joins Tigers Rotation
The Tigers are also acquiring Alfredo Simon from the Reds for Eugenio Suarez and Jonathon Crawford. Simon had a strong 2014 season with a 1.9 WAR that will not completely replace Porcello's 4.0 WAR, but at least fills the void with a solid pitcher. Without Simon the Reds rotation has five men, making a Johnny Cueto trade possible but less likely. |
