Victor Martinez had a great season with the Tigers this year finishing second in MVP voting and first in OPS. He also got the best offensive WAR of his career at a 5.6. These factors contributed to the 4 year $68 million contract extension he received early this offseason, but at 35 there are many questions about Martinez's future, below is my attempt to predict it. |
Martinez's extension breaks down as follows '15: $14 million '16-'18: $18 million per year, but my prediction above has those 4 years accumulating to a WAR of only 4.5 which is 1.1 less than what he had in 2014 alone. The average DH earns $7.4 million per WAR point this factor means V-Mart should earn somewhere in the range of 30-35 million dollars over the next four years, what he actually got is about double what I think he should've earned.
