The Dodgers made another trade today, this time with the Padres, sending Matt Kemp and Tim Federowicz (fehd-er-oh-vich) for Yasmani Grandal (yaz-MAH-nee gran-DAHL), and Joe Wieland. There have been rumors around a Kemp deal for a while now, and this one seemed the most likely. The Dodgers like Kemp but simply could not afford to keep him in their packed outfield to earn $107 million over the next five years. They get Yasmani Grandal to fill the Dodgers ever changing backup catcher spot that has changed this offseason from Drew Butera to Ryan Lavarnway to Tim Federowicz (fehd-er-oh-vich) to Yasmani Grandal. For a backup catcher Grandal's 2.2 oWAR and 6.2 NP/O (3rd among catchers) in 2014 are very impressive. We will see what the Dodger do to get him the playing time he deserves. |

Ben Cherington has completely changed the Red Sox rotation in just a matter of hours. He has added Wade Miley, Rick Porcello, and Justin Masterson to the rotation that previously was just Joe Kelly, and Clay Buchholz. Masterson came up with the Red Sox before being traded to the Indians for Victor Martinez in 2009. He has had an up and down career since then, with streaks of brilliance as well as some bad years. The Red Sox have now signed him for one year and $9.5 million. Other addition to the Sox rotation is Wade Miley, acquired in a deal with the D-Backs.The Tigers have reached two deals reported Thursday, day four of the Winter meetings. Dodgers busy in day three at winter meetingsWith three big trades it is hard to make sense of all the Dodgers did. Here's a diagram that should help. Andrew Heaney was on the Dodger's roster for less than 24 hours before he was sent for Howie Kendrick this morning. Heaney was a possible option as the Dodgers fifth starter. Without him on the roster anymore the Dodgers will still be searching for someone to fill the hole. Recent rumors have suggested that they may be looking to Brandon McCarthy to do just that.
