The Yankees are bringing back Chase Headley on a four year $52 million deal. Headley was the top free agent on the market after Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval signed, and although this contract seems huge I will reiterate what I said in my projection of Headley (my very first projection), although the price has risen for Headley he is still at a fair price even in the $50-60 million range. Headley's oWAR has been at least 2.0 each of the past four years. Headley said that he felt comfortable with his role on the team with Alex Rodriguez coming back. This almost certainly means A-Rod will not be the Yankees starting third baseman. He may DH often and sometimes play third base, but with the steroids and the biogenesis scandal looming over him it is unclear how the Yankees will go about the A-Rod situation. |
